Overdrive hacking conference is an international computer security conference held in the university of Girona that takes place each year during the last week of April.
I founded this project with 3 good friends of mine at the age of 21 during my third year of computer engineering studies at the university.
Since a very early age I’ve always had a huge interest in everything related to technology, specially information technology. Computer security was a really interesting field as it allowed me to gain deep knowledge about information security through the process of actually breaking software and devices to better explore them.
So as time passed by I’ve learnt that the way of gaining knowledge and advancing a career in technology goes straightly through sharing projects, knowledge and ideas with groups and individuals across the world. It’s virtually impossible to know everything in the field and thus having a good relationship with fellow professionals in other communities will help improving your knowledge and will bring progress to your career.
So I decided to start an international computer security conference in Spain.
Overdrive conference has been the first international-focused computer security event in Spain, focused in connecting the community and sharing technical experience.
I’ve decided to host this event in the wonderful city of Girona because I personally think that this area has a huge potential in terms of development I know really good professionals here who are performing very good in the tech scene. It is also a great place to live indeed. So why don’t start a cybersecurity-tech-hub here? That was one of my goals.
The event focuses on bringing professionals from all over the world here and make them feel like home, or even better, to enhance good bilateral relations.
At every conference we use to invite a set of local tech companies to meet with professionals and researchers from all over the world. The main goal is enabling commercial and scientific relations and empowering collaboration.
Since late 2016 we’ve raised and invested close to 60KEUR on this project and I’ve had the chance to manage a team of about 25 hackers who work very hard in the process of setting up this fantastic CON.
